SwarmCatch | 10 Pack
SwarmCatch lure vials contain Nasonov, the orientation pheromone, sometimes called the "come hither" pheromone. On average, swarms will occupy 50-80% of catch boxes with Swarm Catch (provided there is a reasonable amount of swarming in the area).
Setting Up SwarmCatch - Use an empty, preferably previously used hive with at least one old frame. The hive should have a bottom entrance. Attach the SwarmCatcher lure with a pushpin to one of the frames closer to the entrance. (There is a loop at the top of the lure.) Do not open or puncture the tube! The pheromone will naturally diffuse through the vial’s wall.
Things to Consider During Set Up
- Set up the bait hive between 3 and 10 feet (1 to 3 m) above the ground.
- Make sure the location is shaded, which aids hive ventilation.
- Hives in the sun can be abandoned due to overheating.
- Hives with the entrance facing south have a greater chance of getting occupied by a swarm.
- Make sure the hive is dry and free of other insects (ants, wax moth, etc).
Storage of the Lures - Store lures in a freezer until use. Unused lures can be put back in the freezer. Lures can be stored in a freezer for up to 3 years. Being out of the freezer during shipping will not affect the performance of the lure in any way.
